IUGA 2013 38th Annual Meeting
Review of the 38th Annual Meeting in Dublin, Ireland
A big thank you to everyone who made it to the IUGA 38th Annual Meeting in Dublin, Ireland and contributed to its success simply by being there. It was a great meeting, with over 1,500 attendees from 64 countries around the world. The meeting consisted of 26 well-attended workshops and a cutting edge scientific program, resulting in the following awards:
Best Abstract | Carl Gustaf Nilsson, Finland |
Best Video | Alana Murphy, US |
Best Podium Presentation by a Fellow | Jaroslava Karbanova, Prague |
Best Oral Poster Presentation by A Fellow | Daniela Ulrich, Austria |
Several other awards were presented as well. Pamela Moalli received the Ulf Ulmsten Award for her lecture on Exposing the Science of Prolapse Meshes: A Foundation for Future Products. The Board was pleased to present Linda Cardozo with the Lifetime Achievement Award “for her many years of dedication to women’s pelvic health as a teacher, treater, thought leader, mentor and role model, a true IUGA icon”.
Attendees enjoyed an exciting social program complete with delicious Irish fare and performances from Celtic warrior drummers and the Irish choir Anuna.
This year marked the first ever physiotherapist/pelvic floor rehab seminar, attended by over 50 people and well-received by most. The IUGA Fellows also hosted an exciting program consisting of a debate, a fellows’ paper session and an evening networking reception. There were also three special interest group meetings held for pelvic floor rehabilitation, urogenital pain and laparoscopic surgery. Participation in these groups is open to all IUGA members. More information is forthcoming and can also be found by visiting www.iuga.org and selecting ‘connect’, then special interest groups.
At the IUGA exhibition booth, attendees met IUGA members representing areas of interest within IUGA including the PISQ-IR, IUJ and the Foundation for International Urogynecological Assistance (FIUGA). There were also patient education materials for sale, including IUGAstix for POPQ, wall charts, illustration pads and brochures. We created a buzz about our newest patient education item, the surgery flip chart, which will be available for sale in the online store soon.
Thank you once again to those who attended. If you have not done so already, please click here to complete the online evaluation for the meeting to help us plan for future years.
All in all it was a great meeting. Special thanks to Declan Keane, Barry O’Reilly and the rest of the local organizing committee for planning a well-rounded meeting! A more detailed summary of the meeting will be available in the next edition of the IUGA Official Newsletter.
